It was an Awesome day. Jamey says it's one of his favorite days of the whole trip so far.
We went under a ton of Bridges. They were particularly beautiful today under the glow of the morning sun.
I am no longer "She Who Fishes and Never Catches Any Fish." Armed
with a whelk (sea snail) as bait, I caught three Catfish! I'm not very
good at reeling fish in, and Phoenix helped me by pulling the line in
each time.
We were surrounded by Dolphins all day long. They were everywhere and really enjoying playing with each other.
We found a 9-armed sea star. Luidia senegalensis is a type of starfish that has a couple of things about it that are interesting. It has no anus and spits out anything it doesn't digest through its mouth. It also has a stomach that can come out of its body to surround its prey, swallowing the victim whole. Wow. A talented Echinoderm. I guess since its mouth has to take care of eating and pooping, its stomach has to do some extra work, too.
The Falcon 9 had a successful launch tonight. It had been scheduled to take off last week on Thanksgiving Day, but its rocket thrust was building up too slowly at the time, and the launch was aborted one second before lift-off. No problems with today's launch. It took off right when Phoenix and I were pulling in the second catfish. If we had stayed at yesterday's anchorage, we would have had an even closer view. It was amazing to see and hear.
Phoenix was able to practice Gymnastics.
We all very Happily played on the little spoil Island next to where we are anchored. There was a fire ring, and we made a campfire.

Aloha, It looks like you guys just passed through the area in those pictures I sent of tubing behind the sailboat from years ago where we chartered a boat for the weekend while stationed in Orlando at Nuclear Power School. Passed under bridges, saw lots of dolphins, anchored by spoils area at night (after looking for channel daymarkers with spotlight trying to sail along at night in days before GPS...this was back in 1991...) Keep having fun !
ReplyDeleteThanks Sean! Nothing like some warm, Hawaiian style weather to cheer us up. Plus the rocket launch was so cool. No chances to use our Q-beam spotlight yet, but we have one at the ready. Also the girls have been told: No Tubing! (at least for now)
DeleteAloha! JC
I finally have a chance to look at this, as my students work on the last test of the quarter :)
